Secondary Malignoma After Cancer During Childhood: Epidemiologic Studies

Secondary malignomas after intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment during childhood are major long term consequences and occur ten times more often than in a group of age equivalents. The influence of solitary risk factors is yet unknown. Within the projects framework, a systematic collection and documentation will take place to create a basis for future therapy strategies and aftercare programs and to reduce risks for secondary malignomas. Part of this effort is the synchronization of data with the well functioning German Cancer Register (Deutsches Krebsregister) that records cases of secondary malignomas only if they are relapses of cancer during childhood and adolescence.
